DATA PROCESSING
Data are processed to reveal relationships, not to manufacture conclusions.
The objective of processing is to make spatial organisation visible while preserving the distinction between measured information and geological interpretation.
FROM AVAILABLE DATA TO AN INTERPRETABLE GEOLOGICAL SYSTEM
Processing makes relationships visible
Rockline works primarily with existing remotely sensed and geological information available for the project.
The purpose of data processing is not to create a geological conclusion from mathematical transformation alone.
Processing is used to make spatial relationships visible and interpretable.
Data selection
Several available data sources or image options may be reviewed where necessary. Selection considers:
Coverage
Image quality
Atmospheric and surface conditions
Acquisition characteristics
Technical artefacts
Suitability for the intended interpretation
Where no suitable data are available, interpretation may not be technically justified.
Data preparation
The selected data are prepared for interpretation within the project coordinate and spatial framework.
The processing workflow is controlled so that the original information remains distinguishable from subsequent interpretation.
Value filtering
Where appropriate, value ranges may be limited to remove irrelevant portions of the dataset.
Such filtering is a technical operation. It should not be confused with geological interpretation.
Spatial interpretation
After preparation, the data are examined for spatial relationships and continuity. Particular attention is paid to:
Connected features
Branching
Nodes
Intersections
Radial structures
Ring elements
Channels
Depth changes
Relationships between separate observations
Interpretation versus visualisation
The model itself is not changed merely to improve its appearance. Display parameters may be adjusted to improve communication of the interpretation:
Colour
Lighting
Background
Vertical scale
Horizontal scale
Visual thickness
Visualisation is not interpretation.
Such adjustments do not represent changes to the underlying geological interpretation.
Have a project to discuss?
Send us the project location, area of interest and available exploration data. We will assess whether the available information is suitable for system-level interpretation.
